Back in 2012, two sets of brothers founded a games company called
FEO Media in a small town just outside of Gothenburg, Sweden.
“It all started when as childhood friends we decided we wanted to achieve something great together.” says co-founder Robert Willstedt. Coming from diverse backgrounds - one teacher, one TV producer, and two programmers - they were searching for an idea that would combine their interests.
The idea for a quiz game evolved as a new gaming platform emerged - mobile apps. With their experience in education, broadcasting, and programming, why not combine these skills into developing a quiz app? “At the time, there was nothing similar to it in the App Store.” says co-founder Henrik Willstedt. “We wanted to create something unique out of a familiar format - quiz games.”
With so many apps being released how was this quiz app
going to stand out from the crowd? Head Developer Kalle Landin recalls:
“The answer came down to the basics, developing a social experience for
users with the focus on producing quality localised content.”
Though this didn’t happen overnight. Head Programmer, Olle Landin remembers, “After many months of brainstorming, drafting, designing, revising, fika meetings, programming, and testing, Quizkampen was finally launched in Sweden in 2012.” Within 1 month, it reached #1 on the app charts. All their hard work had paid off, and the rest as they say, is history...
After the success of Quizkampen in Sweden,
the FEO Media team spent 2013-2015 developing and releasing
more than 20 fully localised versions of Quizkampen across the globe,
with additional releases planned for 2016.
Due to the global success of QuizClash, it has been adapted into alternative platforms: books, board games and a TV game show.
Aired in Germany, Quizduell is the first ever app-turned-TV game show. A team of contestants answer questions while competing for money against the rest of Germany. Viewers in the studio audience and at home can play along in real-time via the ‘Quizduell im Ersten’ app.
These adaptations draw upon the FEO Media founders’ original vision of engaging with players in clever and creative ways.
